The Clyde Fishermen’s Trust is committed to both protecting and ensuring the future prosperity of the fishing industry. A key aspect of our approach in achieving this is to attract a new generation of highly-skilled, local workers into the industry.
Since 2021, we have worked alongside numerous partners including FITA (Fishing Industry Training Association), Seafish, Argyll and Bute Council, Agnes Hunter Trust and New Park Educational Trust to deliver multiple training programmes across the Clyde to provide individuals with the training, hand-on experience and support they need to pursue a career within the fishing industry.
We are particularly focused on broadening access to careers within the fishing industry, supporting individuals who may have never considered a career at sea or those who face barriers to entry.
With support from Argyll and Bute Council through the Scottish Government’s No One Left Behind scheme, we are excited to announce a new round of our training programme with 12 places now available for aspiring fishermen and seafarers.
You don’t need to have any previous experience of fishing or working at sea to apply. We are keen to hear from people who are enthusiastic and are keen to learn new skills!
Due to funding constraints the current course is open only to individuals who are aged 15 – 66 and who are currently living in Argyll and Bute. Additionally, you must be able to meet one of the following criteria :
